The nursery setup checklist, decided on specs rather than colour
Nursery shopping is loud, and most of the noise is about things that do not matter. Plan the room as a board with the safety standard, the age range and the footprint on each item, and let the rest be taste.
The short version
Most nursery decisions come down to three facts: does it meet the current safety standard, how long will it be used before it is outgrown, and does it fit the room. Keep those on the item. Almost everything else in nursery marketing is variation on colour, and can be decided last.

Who it's for
Anyone setting up a room before a birth, usually with a fixed date, a modest budget and a lot of contradictory advice.
What people use today
Babylist owns the registry and does it well. A registry is a list of things other people might buy you, which is a different object from a plan of a room with a budget and a due date on it.
What a board tracks here
Fields you name yourself, on the item they belong to. These are the ones that decide a purchase and have nowhere else to live.
- Safety standard
- The only spec that is not negotiable, and the one most likely to be out of date on a resale item.
- Used until
- A moses basket lasts three months. A cot lasts three years. That ratio should drive the budget.
- Footprint
- Nurseries are the smallest room in the house and everything in them is bulky.
- Gifted or bought
- A lot of this arrives from other people, and buying a second one is the common failure.
